Burwood Motorsports Featured on Phoenix FM: Roman Curtis Shines in First Ever Radio Interview

Burwood Motorsports proudly featured on Phoenix FM this weekend as founder and Managing Director Alby Saunders appeared alongside rising karting talent Roman Curtis during the station’s sports programme hosted by John Chubb.

For 14-year-old Roman, the appearance marked a major milestone in his young career — his very first radio interview — and one that proved to be a huge success for both the driver and the wider Burwood Motorsports team.

The interview gave listeners an insight into Roman’s journey through grassroots karting, his achievements to date, and the growing ambitions behind Burwood Motorsports as the company continues to support and develop young racing talent from Essex and the surrounding areas.

Roman spoke confidently about how he first became involved in karting, the commitment required to compete at a high level, and his aspirations for the future. Having already represented the UK at the Sodi World Series Finals in Malaga, Spain — where he achieved an impressive 7th place in the world — the interview highlighted why Roman is regarded as one of the most exciting young talents emerging from grassroots motorsport.

Speaking after the interview, Burwood Motorsports founder Alby Saunders praised Roman’s professionalism and composure throughout the live appearance:

“For his first-ever radio interview, Roman was absolutely brilliant. He represented himself, his family, and Burwood Motorsports professionally from start to finish. People must understand that young drivers today need more than just speed on track — they also need confidence, communication skills, and the ability to represent sponsors and partners properly. Roman showed all of that during the interview.”

Saunders also used the interview to discuss the wider vision behind Burwood Motorsports and the importance of creating opportunities for talented young drivers who may otherwise struggle with the financial demands of motorsport:

“Burwood Motorsports was created to help bridge the gap between talented grassroots drivers and businesses looking to support ambitious young people. There is so much untapped talent within UK karting, but funding remains one of the biggest barriers. We want to build genuine partnerships that benefit drivers, sponsors, and the wider local community.”

The feature on Phoenix FM represents another positive step forward for Burwood Motorsports as the organisation continues building momentum through sponsorship growth, community engagement, and increasing media exposure.

The interview also highlighted the importance of local support within grassroots sport and how businesses can play a key role in helping develop future talent while gaining meaningful brand visibility through sponsorship opportunities.

Burwood Motorsports would like to extend a sincere thank you to John Chubb for the opportunity and for making Roman feel so welcome during his first radio appearance. The team would also like to thank everyone at Phoenix FM for their support and hospitality throughout the day.
